TE 851 Literacy Young Child Home and School

Spring 2011

The focus of this class was to study and examine best practices for children starting from birth until early elementary school.  During the course we used book clubs, group discussions and current studies to understand best practices for this particular age group of students.

Artifact:  This artifact was the final book club project with my group.  We critiqued the book Other People's Words.

Fall 2010

For this course we studied ways to adjust our instruction to meet the needs of our students.  We explored strategies for students with IEP's, hearing and visual impairments and other attributes that teachers have to adjust to every year. 

TE 848 Methods of Writing Instruction

Summer 2010

In this course we focused on how to improve writing instruction for elementary students.  The class read important books and articles regarding best practices in writing, joined a class book club and even participated and shared their own writing piece.

Artifact: In my final  paper I explore some best practices that incorporated technology into the classroom when teaching writing.

TE 882 Assessment to Inform Teaching and Curriculum

Summer 2010

The focus on this course was to study and create proper assessments for our classroom.  The class worked on the meaning of assessment, over coming bias of assessment and the creation of assessments for our classroom.

Artifact: I created a formative assessment plan for my current fourth grade social studies class and our first unit of the year.  It really helped me organize and stay focused while teaching my students.

EAD 882 Educational Administration

Fall 2010

In this class we focused on best practices to successful schools, with an emphasis on inner city schools.  We looked at many case studies and analyzed what was working with schools and what wasn't.

Artifact:In my final paper for this class I wrote a school plan that I would implement in my school, since I teach in a high risk school, that I could put in place in the beginning of the year.

ED 800 Concepts of Educational Inquiry

Fall 2009

The focus of this class was to study the past of educational thought to gain a deeper understanding of education today.  We explored famous educational thinkers such as Dewey and Rousseau.

These classes were taken during my teaching internship year of the Michigan State Teaching program.  During these classes, we met every other week with a group of fellow interns and discussed, planned lessons, and shared experiences that dealt with Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies.  These classes were an integral part of my beginning teaching experience and laid the foundation for the teacher I am now.
